Where to Install

The first step in preparing for the installment is choosing a location. You must be confident where your new water filter system will be situated. As suggested by the name, these filter systems affect the water supply to the entire house. All but some faucets will receive the same filtered water from the same source. You’ll need to set it up near the water main. This is where the main water feed comes into the household. Other things to consider would be easy access for the main to the heater. It has to be located somewhere that maintenance won’t be an issue and the water is upstream.

 

For a proper water filter system installation, you’ll need a few basic tools to complete the task.

  • Bucket or Pan
  • Teflon Tape
  • Drill and Drill Bits

The Installation process

All whole house water filter systems have pretty much the same functional processes. However, the process of installing one may or may not be the same. But rest assured, the setup for these is rather straightforward. Laymen may be able to install one in the span of a few hours.

 

10 step installment –

  1. Wrap Teflon tape around the threads of the pipe fitting.
  2. Screw the fittings into the head cap and secure tightly with an adjustable wrench.
  3. Before installing the filter, turn off the water supply. Then turn on a faucet to relieve pressure in the line.
  4. Cut out a section of the pipe using a pipe cutter, depending on the type of pipes you have. Place a bucket underneath to catch the remaining water.
  5. Insert the push fitting on one side of the filter assembly into the pipe as far as it will go, approximately 1”.
  6. Cut and sand a 3″-4″ length of pipe. Push it into one of the slip joint fittings.
  7. Hold the slip joint up to the pipe to get an approximate measurement of where you need to cut the pipe on the other side of the assembly.
  8. Cut the pipe with the tube cutter and push the slip joint onto the pipe as far as you can.
  9. Install the filter within the container. This will need to be changed out occasionally for maintenance.
  10. Turn the water supply back on and check.
