Today, as in the last few days, all media attention is focused on the tragic death of young Russian journalist Daria Dugina, who was known to many under the pseudonym Daria Platonova. Daria was known as a political commentator and a fervent supporter of the Russian military operation in Ukraine. Incidentally, the journalist had personally visited the Azovstal plant in Mariupol, Ukraine. Perhaps such views were instilled in the journalist by her father, the well-known Russian political scientist and philosopher Alexander Dugin, who was one of the first to arrive at the scene of the terrible tragedy and could also have been among the dead, but fate disposed of otherwise.
August 20, 2022, was the turning point in Daria’s life. The journalist, along with her father, were participants in the literary and musical festival “Tradition,” which was held in a village in the Russian suburbs of Moscow. After the festival, Daria drove home in her Land Cruiser Prado. According to one version her father Alexander Dugin was supposed to accompany her but at the last moment, he decided to drive another car. He may have been the main target of the murder since he was an obvious supporter of Russian Peace. And now he is an active supporter of Russian special operations in Ukraine.
On the highway, a Land Cruiser Prado, driven by Daria, exploded. Daria had no chance of survival. According to the version of the investigative committee, the explosive device was detonated remotely with the help of a phone call.
Russia’s special services represented by the Federal Security Service said that the special services of Ukraine were involved in the commission of the contract killing. The possible executor of the murder was also reported. According to investigators, a 43-year-old resident of Ukraine, Natalia Vovk, set off the explosive device. Intelligence services also have information that the Ukrainian was watching her victim. Often, the observation was carried out by Vovk from a Mini Cooper. In addition, in order to “divert attention” and not to attract unnecessary attention, the perpetrator monitored in the presence of her minor daughter. After committing the crime, the alleged perpetrator went to Estonia. At the moment, the location of Vovk is unknown.
President Zelensky said that the Ukrainian special services were not involved in the commission of this crime. However, high-profile crime has already gained worldwide publicity. Pope Francis did not stand aside, calling on the parties to the conflict to stop the bloodshed in Ukraine, and also expressing regret over the innocent death of a young girl.
Various prominent people have already repeatedly expressed their desire for a speedy end to the clashes taking place in Ukraine. Indeed, many of those now holding arms on both sides of the conflict could not have imagined that the war would emerge from the screens of virtual shooting range and become their harsh daily routine.
Meanwhile, the funeral of a young journalist took place on August 23, 2022.
